Within the framework of international cooperation, the State Audit Office of Latvia participates in building the capacity of supreme audit institutions of Eastern Partnership countries of the European Union (EU) to help integrate international audit standards in their activities.
Within the framework of this project, the experts of the State Audit Office are visiting Ukraine from September 23 to 25, where they conduct a training program for their colleagues at the Supreme Audit Institution of Ukraine on practical aspects of performance auditing.
“Today, we are both demanded as consultants and advisors in the international environment and also contributing professionally to the improvement of the working environment of the supreme audit institutions. Therefore, it is important to continue the initiatives launched by the State Audit Office by providing professional support to Ukrainian colleagues and bringing the Supreme Audit Institution of Ukraine closer to the principles set by international standards,” outlines Auditor General Elita Krūmiņa when expressing her satisfaction with the fact that the professionalism, experience, and knowledge of the State Audit Office of Latvia is appreciated internationally because it is recognition not only of the institution but of Latvia as a whole.
The training program of the State Audit Office is a continuation of development co-operation projects, which have been implemented for four years now aimed at building the capacity of supreme audit institutions of Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia in the process of ISSAI integration. One plans complete the development cooperation project by the end of this year, which is funded from the funds of the Development Cooperation Policy Plan allocated in 2019 and administered by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The State Audit Office is an active member of the International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) and the European Association of Supreme Audit Institutions (EUROSAI), and it implements various cooperation measures aimed at the development of supreme audit institutions of the EU Eastern Partnership countries. It is an essential tool for Latvia and the EU to achieve common objectives of development cooperation.
Experts of the State Audit Office provide knowledge and experience on ethical aspects of supreme audit institutions and procedures for audit quality control within this program, which are essential principles established in international standards for ensuring high-quality auditing process.
