INTOSAI Environmental Auditing

The working group aims to improve the methods for conducting environmental protection policy audits, promote mutual exchange of experience among supreme audit institutions on the issues related to environmental auditing. The group pays particular attention to cooperative audits on environmental cross-border policies, as well as audits on implementation of international environmental conventions. The working group was founded in 1993 and currently comprises more than 70 supreme audit institutions from different countries of the world.

Representatives of the State Audit Office participate in various international projects within the working group, for example, in the improvement of guidelines for environmental auditing, and in the development of online training. For instance, in 2019, the State Audit Office shared its experience in conducting waste management audits via video footage at the Getliņi landfill.
